33kV cable diversion for NGED HS2
33kV cable diversion for NGED HS2

HS2 Utilities Diversions:

Design of LV, 11 kV and 33 kV utility diversions associated with the HS2 railway development, replacing existing overhead line infrastructure with underground cable systems. Engineering services included route development, cable pulling calculations, thermal rating studies, earthing design and the structural design of poles and stays. The project supported the safe diversion of utility assets away from critical railway infrastructure.

Key Services Delivered: Utility diversion design, cable pulling calculations, cable thermal analysis, pole and stay design, earthing design, underground cable systems.

Freedom - SSE 33kV OHL to Underground Cable Diversion

Detailed design of a 15 km dual-circuit 33 kV cable diversion incorporating fibre optic communications and a sectionalised cross-bonded earthing system. The project included CYMCAP thermal analysis for ducted cable installations and multiple HDD crossings at depths of up to 20 m beneath Network Rail infrastructure. Earthing design covered link box and pole earth systems in accordance with BS 7430, with touch and step potential assessments undertaken to BS EN 50522 and ENA EREC S34.

Key Services Delivered: Cable system design, CYMCAP thermal studies, HDD assessments, cross-bonding design, earthing design, touch and step voltage analysis.

Sheaf Energy - 249 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)

Provision of electrical design services for a 249 MW Battery Energy Storage System, including review of LVAC distribution designs serving PCS and battery modules. Developed detailed load profiles and carried out cable thermal assessments using CYMCAP and Cableizer to independently review the LV Designs. The project also included the design of National Grid relay room LVAC and LVDC distribution systems.

Key Services Delivered: LVAC and LVDC design, cable thermal analysis using CYMCAP and Cableizer.

Data Centre 132kV 150MVA Cable Design

Provided detailed cable system design for a new 150 MVA data centre connection in London, incorporating a strategic solution to enable initial operation at 66 kV while facilitating a future upgrade of the supplying UKPN substation to 132 kV. The project required the application of 132 kV cable system equipment and accessories from the outset, together with extensive analysis of bonding arrangements under both present and future operating scenarios. Particular consideration was given to installation constraints within the congested London highway network, ensuring a technically compliant and future-proof cable system design.

Key Services Delivered: 132 kV cable system design, cable bonding studies, future network upgrade assessments, cable route engineering, utility interface coordination, urban infrastructure design, scenario analysis.
